Joann Louise Jolly (née Clibbens), of Denton, died on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at the age of 89.

Joann was born on August 11, 1936, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the first child born to parents Arthur and Ann (Knouff) Clibbens.

It was there in Steel City that she met Earl Edward "Bud" Jolly, who had recently served the Army in the Korean War. As the story goes, Joann and Earl were introduced by mutual friends but were off to a rocky start thanks to a less-than-romantic double date. However, after date number two, the sparks flew and they soon tied the knot on October 22, 1955. They were married for 60 years until Earl's death on April 9, 2016.

In the early 1960s, after the birth of their first two sons, the couple would relocate permanently to Earl's native Texas where two more sons and a daughter would follow.

A lifelong homemaker, Joann raised her five children in and around Denton County where she spent many years cheering on her children - and later grandchildren - who were active in many local sports. She was a fan of crossword puzzles and an avid reader. In recent years, she often spent time amongst the books in the library where she lived at Good Samaritan in Denton and was known to enjoy sifting through old photographs with her children, telling stories and reminiscing about old friends and family.

Joann was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Ann (Knouff) Clibbens; brothers Bob Clibbens, Bill Clibbens and his wife Judy, Jack Clibbens and his wife Ginny; brother-in-law Paul Pajewski; daughter-in-law Joan Jolly; and her beloved son Ronald Jolly.

She is survived by brothers Jim Clibbens and his wife Barb, Tom Clibbens and his wife Sandy; sisters Mary Lou Pajewski, Barb Mather and her husband Martin; sister-in-law Gerry Clibbens; her sons Robert Jolly and his wife Charlotte, David Jolly, Daniel Jolly; daughter Suzann Cowan and her husband Michael; daughter-in-law Patricia Jolly; seven grandchildren, Jessica Murdock and her husband Brandon, Clay Jolly and his wife Megan, Emily Richardson and her husband Korey, Christopher Cowan and his wife Caitlin, Elizabeth Jolly, Jared Cowan and his wife Afton, Russell Jolly; three step grandchildren; seven great grandchildren.

A graveside visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Friday, February 27, 2026 at Krum Jackson Cemetery on FM 156 South of Krum with funeral services immediately following.
