Joan Burris
Feeler
December 15, 1934 – May 7, 2021
Joan Burris Feeler was born on December 15, 1934 in Girdner, Missouri to the late Orval E. and Lela Burris. Joan was the oldest of 4 children. Her dad Orval Burris joined the Army during the depression years to support his family.
Joan and Cliff felt God's leadership in getting married in order that she would not go to Germany to join her family. Joan and Cliff had 68 years of wonderful life serving the Lord. Joan and Cliff graduated from Southwest Baptist College in Bolivar, Missouri. She taught school in Doolittle, Missouri for 2 years before moving to Waco, Texas.
While Cliff was serving Meadowbrook Baptist Church in Waco, Joan started the Kindergarten program for the church. When Cliff went as Associate Pastor/Administrator to Plymouth Park Baptist Church in Irving, she became a Kindergarten teacher. Later in their ministry life at First Baptist Church Denton, she accepted the position of Director of Preschool Ministry. She retired after serving 10 years. First Baptist Flower Mound then called her out of retirement to be their Preschool Minister for 5 years and then she retired again.
Joan and Cliff made 6 trips to Israel the Holy Land and many other trips with family and the 39er's Group from First Baptist Denton which was always a blessing. She loved spending time with family and friends.
She was the proud mother of Deborah and Wes and also grandmother to Clint and Mason and great-grandmother to Emma and Parker.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents Orval and Lela Burris and brother Duane Burris and his daughter Joan's niece Tana' Schwartzman. She is survived by her loving husband Cliff of 68 wonderful years, daughter Deborah Feeler Thomas, son Wes Feeler and 2 grandsons Clint and wife Morgan Feeler and their daughter Emma from Maypearl, Mason and Brittany Feeler and their son Parker from Edmond Oklahoma. Brother Rev. Dana and wife Sandy Burris from Camp Verde, Arizona and their son Robin and wife Mandy and 2 their daughters Keegan and Kenzie from Phoenix, Arizona and daughter Darla Lea and husband Lester and daughter Carlie from Mississippi, sister Orvalene and husband Ron Prewitt from Kansas City and their daughter Shauna and her daughter Bella. She is also survived by her Sister-in-law Shirley Burris (Duane's wife) and nephew Doug and wife Amy Burris and daughter Amber from Lebanon, Missouri. Delores Ferns Cliff's sister and her daughters Donna Pickle and daughter Anna from Mississippi and Becky and Bill Thomas and their children Micah and wife Reagan Thomas and daughter Josie, Sarah and Caleb Foxworth and Josh Thomas also from Madison, Mississippi. Also, Joan is survived by cousins and many wonderful friends.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday May 13, 2021 at 11:00 am at First Denton Church, 1100 Malone St. Denton, TX. A visitation will take place beginning at 9:30 before the service. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park, Denton, TX.
In lieu of flowers make a donation to the Preschool Ministry of First Denton.
