JL Wright, 70, of Sanger, Texas went to be with the Lord, on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at home surrounded by his family; after a long battle with Parkinson's and Alzheimer's.
He was born May 19, 1947 in Menard, TX to LM (Buck) Wright and Lillian (Bailey) Wright. JL was the last surviving child of six children. He was preceded in death by his sisters and brothers, Wanella Walker, Nellie Robinson, Zelbert Wright, George Wright and Leslie Wright. He married Shirlene Bowles Calvert on January 8, 1974 in Gainesville, Texas.
He is survived by his wife of forty-four years, Shirlene Bowles Wright of Sanger; daughters, Becky Claiser and her husband, Keith Claiser of Sanger; Rachel Brandon and her husband Dr. Stanley Brandon, DVM of Ponder; grandchildren, Grace, Joshua, Meagan and Calvin Claiser and Heather Boyer, JT and Ashley Brandon.
He was a quiet man with a good sense of humor; he lived by the golden rule. He was good at fixing things. He worked as a truck mechanic for GMC Trucks, Standard Spring and Axle in Dallas; prior to working for the City of Denton from where he retired. He owned and operated JL Wright Truck and Tractor Services. He said if a thing was worth doing to do it right.
He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Sanger. He was an avid bicycle rider. He completed the 100 mile ride at Hotter'n Hell at Wichita Falls several times. He loved to fish.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father and to his grandkids, he was Pap; he loved spending time with them. His eyes always lit up when he saw them coming. He and Shirlene transported the Sanger Band instruments and equipment to the games for many years.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at the First Baptist Church, 708 W. 5 ^th St, Sanger, TX. Rev. Grant Bowles and Dr. E.L. "Skip" McNeal will officiate the service. Visitation will be from 12:30 until service time.
The family wishes to mention a special thanks to the care they received from Solaris Hospice. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Sanger building fund.
