Jimmy Vaughn Brooks
Jimmy Vaughn Brooks, 89, passed away on September 29, 2024 in Denton, Texas. He was born to James E. Brooks and Reba W. Brooks on June 14, 1935 in Roswell, New Mexico. He married Audrey Faye Stuart on June 2, 1956 in Denton.
Jimmy graduated from Denton High School and what is now the University of North Texas. He spent ten years (including military leave) with Sears before joining IBM, from which he retired after 25 years.
After retirement, he pursued his long-time interest in ceramics. He was a studio potter and showed his work at the Denton Arts and Jazz Fest and other venues. In 1995 he studied for a month at the acclaimed ceramics program at Alfred University in New York. For more than 25 years he was an instructional assistant in ceramics at Northlake College in Irving. In Jimmy's final years, he spent a lot of time playing card games and visiting with his friends at Lake Forest Good Samaritan. He was also instrumental in the organization and planting of over 140 trees on the Lake Forest Good Samaritan property.
He is survived by his son, Eric S. Brooks, and wife, Theresa L. Brooks and his grandson Vaughn A. Brooks. He was preceded in death by his wife Audrey Brooks, parents and his beloved stepmother Nadine Westerman Brooks Cole.
Funeral services will be at Mulkey-Bowles-Montgomery Funeral Home, 705 N. Locust St., Denton at 2:00 pm on Thursday, October 3rd, followed by graveside service and reception at Eric S. Brooks' home.
In lieu of flowers donations made be made to the SPCA .
