JESS D. COOKE
Jess Cooke, 84, went to Heaven Wednesday afternoon, August 13, 2014 from Denton, Texas. Jess was born Oct. 11, 1929 in Marysville, Texas. He grew up in Keller and Boyd, Texas and graduated from Boyd High School. He met Jo Ann Shockley in January 1950 and married her one year later on Jan. 5, 1951 in Dallas, Texas. He served in the U.S. Army two years and served in the Korean Conflict. Jess then attended Decatur Baptist College and graduated from Howard Payne University and Southwestern Seminary. He pastored churches in Texas, Ohio and Indiana. Jess was appointed as a home missionary while pastoring in Indiana and served in that capacity for 17 years. They moved to Denton in 1993 where they chose to live in their retirement years.
Jess is preceded in death by his son Gerald Lynn Cooke, sisters Gloria Myers and Jackie Morgan; and brother Jimmy Cooke. He is survived by his wife Jo Ann, sons Phil Cooke (wife Marcia) and David Cooke (wife Debbie), daughter Brenda Randles, and brother Lee Roy Cooke. Also surviving him are grandchildren Brooke Franks, Lauren Sanchez, Meagan Randles and Cody and Shannon Cooke, along with great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family will be from 6-8 pm Friday, August 15, at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home, 705 N. Locust, Denton, Texas. Funeral service will be at 2 pm Saturday, August 16 at First Baptist Church of Denton, 1100 Malone St. with Dr. Jeff Williams and Ref. Cliff Feeler officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, also in Denton.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Dallas Baptist University, or to First Baptist Church of Denton.
