Jerry Blocker, 83, of Decatur, Texas, passed from this life into heaven’s presence on October 22, 2026, at his home.
Born alongside his identical twin on December 22, 1942, in Whitney, Texas, Jerry grew up on his father’s dairy farm, where he learned the value of hard work at an early age. He graduated from Denton High School and went on to attend Texas Tech University, where he earned a degree in Animal Sciences and competed on the Texas Tech Rodeo Team, riding bulls and bareback horses.
Following college, Jerry honorably served his country in the U.S. Army for three years as a medic. His first deployment was at the Army hospital in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, followed by a one-year deployment to Vietnam. There, he served as a Staff Sergeant overseeing an ambulance unit. He returned home safely in the summer of 1969, having achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant and earned the prestigious Bronze Star Medal.
A lifelong cattle rancher, Jerry managed the WR Ranch in Argyle, Texas, for the Frank Schultz family from 1978 until 2004. He and his twin brother, Joe, also operated a hay hauling business for many years and ran the "Blocker Buck-Outs," which was highly popular in the local community. Outside of his work, Jerry was a skilled "42" domino player and loved team roping, fishing, hunting, and watching rodeos on the Cowboy Channel.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Melissa Stephenson; and his sister, Alice Weight.
He is survived by his loving wife, Earlene Blocker; his son, Mitchell Blocker; his grandson, Beck Stephenson; his identical twin brother, Joe Blocker; his sister, Barbara Belcher; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
