JD Coffin, aged 91, passed away on Friday, May 15, 2015, at his home in Denton, Texas. He was born on March 2, 1924 in Denison, Texas to Lemley and Ella Coffin. He married Georgia Young on December 24, 1942 in Denison, Texas. They moved to Denton in 1965. JD served in WWII from 1943-1946, he then worked for S.H. Kress & Company in Denison until 1948. From 1948 until he retired in 1979 he was employed by the United States Postal Service establishing the zip code program then served as a clerk and then a supervisor.
He is survived by his son, Larry Coffin; sister, Norma Jean Seale; and 5 grandchildren, Kimberly Dill, Kellye King, Casey Fry, Jeff Coffin, and Carrie Takes; 17 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Georgia Coffin; 2 sons, Danny Coffin and Darrell Coffin; 1 great grandson, Bryson Dill, and 1 brother, Wilburn Coffin.
A visitation will be held on Monday, May 18, 2015 at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home, 705 N. Locust, Denton from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 in the Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Sherman, TX.
