Jane Alice Sulstrom, whose nickname was Flossie which was given to her by her dad, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2026, in Denton, Texas. She was born on May 22, 1928, in Eagle River, Wisconsin. In her passing, she joined many loved ones who had gone before her.
Jane lived a life marked by kindness, strength, and deep devotion to the people around her. She was smart, caring, strong, witty, crafty, and was truly one of a kind who loved her family and friends deeply, she carried herself with a warm and loving spirit. No matter what was going on in her life, she kept a smile on her face and never complained.
Education and teaching were an important part of Jane’s life. She graduated from Eagle River High School in Wisconsin and went on to earn her teaching degree from Rural Normal School in Langlade County, Wisconsin. She became a teacher who was loved by her students and parents both. Jane taught for three years in Wisconsin and for twenty-six years in California, building a long and meaningful career in the classroom. When she was out in town, people would still call out, “Hi Mrs. Sulstrom,” a simple but lasting sign of the impression she made on so many lives. Among the accomplishments she held with pride were honor roll, regular attendance, and never being tardy.
Jane also found joy in the simple and beautiful parts of everyday life. She loved to garden, knit, crafting of all sorts, watching the birds, walking, and playing cards. These everyday joys reflected the thoughtful and steady way she lived, finding beauty in the world around her and happiness in time spent with others.
Her family will remember her as the heart of many treasured gatherings and traditions. She made holidays at her house very special to create lasting family memories. She always took the time to play games and entertain her grandkids. They especially remember her sweet words, “love you a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck,” a saying that captured her warmth perfectly.
Jane is survived by her daughters, Wendy Lankford and Linda Mainord, and by her son, Randy Sulstrom. Through Wendy, Linda, Kimberlee and Randy, her legacy continues in the lives of her 10 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. She leaves behind a family shaped by her love, her traditions, and the many moments she made special.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernie Sulstrom; her daughter, Kimberlee Sulstrom; her grandson, Adam Lankford; her brothers, Joe Mayo, Robert Mayo, and James Mayo; her sisters, Sue Weycker and Penny Mayo. The love she shared with each of them remained a lasting part of her life.
A memorial service for Jane Alice Sulstrom will be held on October 19, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Mulkey-Bowles-Montgomery Funeral Home, 705 N. Locust St., Denton, Texas 76201.
