Jane Shands England was born Jane Eleanor Shands on January 17, 1937. Her parents, Henry "Pete" and Janie Shands, were both lifelong teachers. Jane's grandmother, Laura Hopson, also lived with them and her presence had a strong, positive influence. Jane's only sibling was her older sister, Betty Ann.

Jane Shands graduated from Denton High School, class of 1955, and went on to earn two bachelor's degrees from North Texas State College, Music and Education.

Jane married John England on June 23, 1962. They met at Sunday school while attending Highland Park United Methodist Church. They had three children, Ruth Ann, Jane Ellen, and Peter Shands. However, Jane cared for many children over the years. Her "children" include nieces, nephews, friends, friends of friends, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the children of strangers. As only the best of us do, she had many names over the years: Mom, Aunt Jane, Nonnie.

Jane taught elementary music for Dallas Independent School District for over twenty years total, taking what she called a "21-year hiatus" to raise kids. Mom loved music her entire life. No matter what she was doing, her voice was almost always soaring through old hymns, tunes, anything at all. She raised a generation who routinely dances and sings while cooking.

Jane is preceded in death by her husband, John England, and her parents and sister. She will be interred in the family plot at the IOOF Cemetery in Denton, Texas.

Given the difficulties imposed by COVID 19, we will not be having a funeral service or church service. We will have a brief graveside service for Jane's children and their spouses.
