Private graveside services for James Bethel Powers ,73, of Sanger, Texas were held Saturday April 6, 2013 in Woodlawn Cemetery El Dorado, Arkansas.
Mr. Powers died on April 4, 2013 after a lengthy illness in Sanger, Texas.
He was born November 14, 1939 in Wichita Falls, Texas to parents: John Bethel Powers (Sayre, Okla.), deceased Feb. 24, 2005 in Texarkana, Texas; and mother Bonnie Jean Smith Powers (Archer City, Texas) deceased Jan. 18, 2002 in Texarkana, Texas, and brother, John William Eugene Powers ( Texarkana, Texas) and deceased December 9, 2000 in Arlington, Texas.
Jim is survived by: wife Pollyann Garris Powers, daughter Misty Ann Powers Tynes, sister Judy Carol Powers Goree; uncle Dr. James Daniel Powers; aunt Laurel Smith Wood; sister-in-law Patricia Ann Wright Powers; brother-in-law Roy F. Garris Jr., and several nieces and nephews.
He grew up in Texarkana, Texas graduating at Texas High in 1958, and was a member of the National Honor Society, Secretary of his Senior Class, band photographer, and held many other class offices. He attended Texarkana College where he was President of the Freshman class, President of Fraternity Delta Sigma Delta, Student Council President, Inter-Club Council Officer, Key Club Officer, and Agriculture Club Officer. He is a U.S. Army Veteran, and graduated from the University of Texas Austin in 1971 with a B.B.A. in Business. He is a past member of Hardy Memorial United Methodist Church, and a member of Lufkin First United Methodist Church, Texarkana Kiwanis Club, and Texarkana Chamber of Commerce.
He was retired from Chem-Cher Chemical Corp., of Sulphur Springs, Texas, and throughout his long career he was awarded, "Salesman of the Year" and other business honors.
