James "Jim" Robert Nicklas, Jr., 72, of Denton, Texas, passed away peacefully to be
with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 4, 2016. He was born August 28,
1944, in Ft. Worth, Texas to James Robert Nicklas, Sr. and Margaret Dobkins Nicklas.
Jim earned his associate's degree at Weatherford Junior College before entering the
United States Marine Corps where he served on active duty 1966-1968,
and reserve
duty 1968-1972.
He completed his bachelor's and master's degrees at the University of
North Texas. Jim retired in 2005 as director of the University of North Texas Student
Union, after serving 38 years at UNT. Jim was an amazing husband, father, and
grandfather, and will always be remembered for his kind and gentle soul and for his
servant's heart.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 45 1/2 years, Marcella "Marcy" Shelton Nicklas;
daughter Martie Nicklas Ewing and husband Wayne of Thousand Oaks, CA; daughter
Emily Nicklas Alirezaei and husband Mohsen of Dallas, TX; four grandchildren Brett
Haire Pohlmeyer, Trevor Rodney Haire, Harlan James Haire, and Ella Anne Ewing;
sister Linda Caswell and husband Jim and family of North Richland Hills, TX; brother
David Nicklas and wife Cheryl and family of Weatherford, TX; father and motherinlaw
Ted and Martha Shelton of Brownwood, TX; brotherinlaw
Ted Shelton and wife Mary
Lee and family of Mesilla, NM; and many extended family members and dear friends.
Visitation will be held this Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at MulkeyMason
Funeral
Home in Denton. Burial will be at Dallas Ft. Worth National Cemetery on Friday at
10:00 a.m. followed by a memorial service at Lifegate Church in Denton at 1:00 p.m.
