James Howard Griffin, 92, of Denton, passed away on Sunday, April 22, 2018 at Medical City Hospital in Denton.
Mr. Griffin was born on October 11, 1925 in Garland, TX to Christopher Shuffler Griffin and Elizabeth (Todd) Griffin. He graduated from Garland High School and attended Odessa College. He served in the United States Navy during WWII and served most of the time on PC1178 in the Pacific as a sonar operator. He was married to Aza Lee Courtney on February 1, 1947 in Odessa, TX. He owned and operated Griffin Propane Company and later was the safety director for Blakely Construction in Odessa, TX.
He enjoyed sports, traveling, fishing, ballroom dancing, bridge, and loved spending time with his family. He was a devoted husband and father.
He is survived by his wife, Aza Lee Griffin of Denton; daughters, Sandra Schlotz and her husband Randy of Double Oak, Norma Crew and her husband Marvin of Lake Kiowa, Jo Ann Callow and her husband Robert of Vacaville, CA; grandchildren, John Schlotz, Leigh McCormick, Dane Crew, Courtney Crew, Jaime Callow; great-grandchildren, Will Schlotz, Cameron Crew, Christian Crew, Jaxon Young. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Gene Griffin.
A private family graveside service will be held at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contribution, in his memory, to a charity of choice is suggested.
