Obituary

James (Jimmy/Jim) Hilman Hartline passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, March 19, 2023. James was born on March 23, 1928 in his uncle Ray's farmhouse in Renner, Texas to parents Arthur Douglas Hartline, Sr. and Margaret Huffman McClary Hartline. Jim and his family moved to Denton, Texas when he was 9 years old where he attended schools and graduated from college with a degree in Engineering. During the Korean war, Jim served in the United States Marine Corps as a Staff Sergeant, enlisting in 1950 and served till 1952 when he received an honorable discharge. During the two years of active duty, he was specially trained as an Airport Control Operator and carried out duties performed on the 38 th parallel. For his service, he received the Korean Service Medal with 1 star and UN Ribbon. After coming home, he continued in the reserves for six more years.

Jim met the love of his life, Betty Lou Magill in January of 1953 when they were on a double date, each with someone else. On September 3, 1953, Jim and Betty married in The Little Chapel in the Woods on the campus of TWU. Jim worked for Bell Helicopter in Hurst, Texas until his retirement in 1985. After he and Betty were both retired, they enjoyed many years with friends and family going on vacations, going out to eat, and spending time together at the home they built in Krum, Texas.

After the passing of Betty in 2008, Jim continued to live in Krum until 2013 when he made the decision to move to Forestburg to live with his daughter, Karen and her husband, Terry Thomason. It was a wonderful ten years he enjoyed there.

Jim was a loving husband to Betty Lou and a wonderful father to his two daughters, Karen and Sandra. He made sure his family was well taken care of in all things and was supportive in the lives and activities of his daughters. When the girls were growing up, the family enjoyed several vacations together. He was funny and loved to tell jokes. Overall, Jim Hartline was a wonderful, loving man who made life fun for his family and friends and was a good steward of all the things God had given him in life.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lou Magill Hartline, daughter, Sandra Kay Hartline, parents Author Douglas Sr. and Margaret Hartline, brother A.D. Hartline Jr., sister-in-law, Jean Hartline, brother-in-law James Marshall Magill. He is survived by his daughter Karen Thomason and husband Terry and sister-in-law Patty Magill.
