James "Jim" Robert Griffin, 78, of Denton, Texas, passed away on May 9th in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loved ones and listening to his favorite music.
Jim was born on October 5, 1945, to Robert Porter and Gladys Tyson Griffin in Wichita, Kansas. The family settled in Plainview, Texas when Jim was a child. After graduating from Plainview High School, Jim moved to Denton to attend college at North Texas State University. During his sophomore year, Jim paused his studies to serve in the United States Army. After two years of service in Germany, Jim returned to finish his degree in Business. Jim was a proud member of Phi Kappa Sigma and remained close friends with many fraternity brothers for life.
While at North Texas State University, Jim met and married the love of his life, Teddy Hawk. During their 54 years of marriage, Jim and Teddy had two beloved boys, Robert Tyson and Joshua Travis. Jim was also a fun and loving grandpa to Thea Nico.
Jim was preceded in death by his mother, father, stepmother Maudie, and sister Suzanne. He is survived by his wife, Teddy Griffin; his children, Robert Tyson Griffin and his wife Kelly Smith, and Joshua Griffin and his partner Rosa Castelar; his granddaughter, Thea Griffin and many dear friends, including Dana Price, who helped Teddy and the family care for Jim during his illness.
A celebration of life will be held at Mulkey-Bowles-Montgomery Funeral Home in Denton on May 25th. Visitation will be at 10 am, with a service following at 11 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, The American Diabetes Association, or your favorite slot machine at Winstar Casino and Resort.
