Franklin Cox, Jr.

James "Jim" Franklin Cox, Jr., 76, of Denton, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at Fairhaven Assisted Living in Denton.
Mr. Cox was born on December 20, 1944 in Waurika, OK to James Franklin Cox, Sr. and Luella (Smith) Cox. He served in the United States Air Force and received a bachelor's degree, with honors, from the University of North Texas. During his time of service, he was stationed at Bien Hoa Air Force base in Vietnam as a K-9 handler, first to the lead the way, from May 1967 – May 1968. He was married to Sandra Jan McCall on November 22, 1968 in Odessa, TX. He was a member of Highland Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon. He retired as the Director of purchasing and logistics for Pro-cuts and had previously been the Director of purchasing and logistics for Turbo Refrigeration. Jim also had worked as a teacher for the Little Elm ISD. Jim and his wife Jan served as volunteers for many years after retirement for the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, where they made many lifelong friends.
Jim is survived by his wife, Sandra Jan Cox of Denton; son, James Franklin Cox, III (LaRessa) of Denton; daughters, Cindy Michelle Bird (Michael) of Denton, Kimberly LuDell Cox (Jeff Brown) of Lavon; grandchildren, Tristen Brown, Brandon Bird, Taylor Cox, Trinity Cox, Blaine Bird. He is also survived by his loving family, Nancy Bird, Lorie Bird, Edward Bird (Amy) of Krum; grandchildren Katie Sanders, Dylan Sanders, Bryson Bird, Brody Bird, Carson Bird. In addition, by brother, Charles William Cox of Beaumont.
Jim was a great lover of fishing, camping, playing golf, spending time with this family, but most of all, his dogs.
A visitation will begin at 1:00 PM until the funeral service time at 2:00 PM Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at First Denton, 1100 Malone St., Denton. Rev. Brandon McCarroll will officiate the service. Interment will be at 9:30 AM Thursday, September 9, 2021 at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
