Obituary

James William Curnutt, 88, died January 30, 2014, at Autumn Oaks Assisted Living Center, Corinth, TX. He was from San Antonio, TX.
Mr. Curnutt was born February 7, 1925 in Canadian, TX. He was the son of James Arthur and Ida Maud (Wheeler) Curnutt. He grew up in the Panhandle of Texas and along the Gulf Coast. He attended North Texas Agricultural College as an Officer Candidate in the U. S. Navy, later transferring to the University of Oklahoma, Norman OK. He graduated from there in 1945. On January 12, 1946, he married Anna Lenore Hinkle, also an OU grad, at 10:00 AM that day and received his Commission as an Officer at 4:00 PM that same day. He served in Rhode Island and Hawaii. After his honorable discharge, he attended OU again and obtained a second bachelor's degree there in 1949.
He began work as a field engineer in 1949 and worked and lived all over West Texas and Southern Oklahoma. He also worked in Montana before returning to Texas in 1955. In 1959, he and his family moved to Corpus Christi, TX and then San Antonio, TX, where he retired from the petroleum industry after serving as an executive for various oil production firms.
He moved to Denton, TX in 2005.
Mr. Curnutt is survived by his sons, Art and Bill and his daughter in law Gretchen, of Denton; his sisters, Mary Lee Weems and Doris Jean Berg, of Amarillo, TX, four grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. His wife Anna preceded him in death October 10, 2005.
A graveside service will be held 9:30 AM, February 5, 2014, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, TX.
