James Thomas Asher, 59, passed away peacefully at his home in Denton on February 10, 2015. James was born in Denton on June 2, 1955 the son of Patricia McElroy Asher and Earl R. Asher. He attendend North Texas Laboratory Elementary and Junior High Schools. James later graduated from Denton High School in 1973 where he was in the band and ran cross country track on the high school team. He was also a member of the Texas DeMolays. James was a member of the First Presbyterian Church since the age of 12. He later attended North Texas State University, Sul Ross University, and Tarleton University. James was well traveled and was a member of the First State Bank Travel Club and had just completed a trip to New York City and has been to 45 states of the U.S.
James is survived by two sisters; Pamela Asher of Denton and Mary Asher Usher and husband Jim of Imperial, MO; two nieces Sherri Marshall and husband Jeff of Barnhart, MO and Lori Price of Arnold, MO, and one nephew Michael Usher and wife Lucenda of Rolling Hills, IL; three great nephews and two great nieces.
James loved the game show Jeopardy where he could answer many of the questions; he was also a math whiz and enjoyed the Denton senior Center.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 13, 2015 at the First Presbyterian Church, 1114 W. University in Denton, with burial to follow in the Roselawn Memorial park, Denton, TX. A visitation will take place just before the service at 1:00p.m.
