Obituary

After a short fight with liver cancer our beloved husband, brother, father, uncle, and friend; Jack Dale Smith passed away quietly and peacefully surrounded by the love of his family at his home in The Colony, early in the morning on October 12, 2009.

Dale was born on August 22, 1934 at the family residence in Childress Texas.  After graduating from RL Paschal Senior High School in Ft. Worth, he joined the Navy.  He was an aerographer's mate in the Navy from 1954 to 1956 and served aboard the Pickaway in the South Pacific and on the Mt. McKinley for H-bomb tests off the coast of California.  Dale graduated from TCU in Ft. Worth in 1959.  Dale and Rosie Anna Holubec were married in Ft. Worth on February 25, 1961.  Dale's charisma, love of people, work ethic, reliability, and zest for life allowed him to excel in key Executive marketing positions within the Texas and California Insurance and insurance-related industries over the next 50 years.  Five years ago Dale assumed a semi-retired role in a marketing position that allowed him and Rosie to spend a wonderful last few years together traveling.

Dale loved Rosie and Rosie's cooking, golf, trout fishing, hunting, the Cowboys, Horned Frog football, the Rangers, watching TV, military history, John Wayne movies,  a stiff drink, and he was a Texan through and through!  Most of all he loved his family and he loved people!

Dale was preceded in passing by his Father; Robert Curtis Smith ("Jack") and his Mother; Eleanor Louise Smith.  He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Rosie Anna Smith; his brother Bill Smith, and sister Marsha Cowdin; his children, Jackie McCorkle, Brad Felsman, Byron Curtis Smith, Kim Mazzara, Traci Dworaczyk, and Amber Shepard.  As all of Dale's friends and family can attest, Dale was especially proud of all of his ten grandchildren and spent most of the last twenty years of his life following, attending and bragging about all of the many activities and successes of each of them.  His grandchildren are Katie McCorkle, Allison McCorkle, Derin Felsman, Deniz Felsman, Curtis Smith, Jack Smith, Knox Mazzara, Hunter Dworaczyk, Maddie Smith, and Hannah Smith.

Visitation will be this Thursday, October 15th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home, 740 South Edmonds Lane, Lewisville, Texas 75067 (972) 436-4581.    A celebration of Dale's life will be open to the public at 1:00 PM Friday, October 15th 2009 at the First United Methodist Church, 4901 Paige Road, The Colony, Texas 75056.  Dale will be laid to rest early Friday morning in a brief and private ceremony (the family will contact attendee's with the time) at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas 75211 (214) 467 3374.
