Obituary

J. Nolan Barnett of Denton, at the age of 94 passed away on Sunday January 25, 2009 with his children at his side.   He was born on May 12, 1914 in Carthage, Texas.  He grew up in the Sivells Bend area of Cooke County and married Inell Puckett on September 22, 1940 in Saint Jo, Texas.

Nolan was a member of the First Baptist Church of Denton where he attended the Early Bird Sunday School Class and 39ers.  He was also a member of the United Commercial Travelers of America (UTC) no. 792, which awarded him \"The Man of the Year\" honor in 1979.

Nolan was a mail carrier from Saint Jo to Forestburg in the early '40s; an operator of Gulf and Phillips 66 service stations; an employee of Fort Worth Convair aircraft plant and W. E. Hixon Company in Dallas in the '50s and '60s;  and owner of Barnett Construction Company in Denton until his retirement.

He was preceded in death by his parents Henry Bascomb Barnett and Sarah Elizabeth Sikes-Barnett;  siblings Frank Barnett, Mackie Barnett and Tishie Mae Kyle; and wife Inell Puckett-Barnett.  Survivors include his daughter, Joan Kilpatrick and husband Michael of Alameda, CA;  son, Weldon Barnett and wife Beverly of Denton;  three grandchildren, Kelly Kilpatrick-Skelton and husband Jay, Katrina Barnett and Dory Barnett; one great grandson, Parker Nolan Skelton.

The family will be at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday January 30 at Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home, 705 N. Locust, Denton.  A second visitation will take place from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM before the funeral service at 2:00 PM Saturday January 31, 2009 in the Cindy Nichols Chapel of the First Baptist Church, 1100 Malone St., Denton.  Rev. Cliff Feeler will officiate at the service.  Interment will follow in Era Cemetery, Era, TX.

The family would like to thank Ann's Haven Hospice, especially Kirsten Kaae and Wanda Wilcox, and to caregivers Lois Waldrop, Ginger Greenlee, Diane Byers, Cathy Hebert, and Dorothy Williams.
