Obituary

It is with great sadness that we say our last goodbyes to Irene Rey Rice of Denton TX. She passed away peacefully Saturday, October 24, 2020 at her home at Mayberry Gardens Assisted Living. It was her home the past 2 years with her husband Kenneth, until he passed November 5, 2019. They moved to Texas in 2015 to be closer to their daughter, who was able to oversee and assist with their care.

Mrs. Rice was born in New York on July 3, 1927. She lived most of her young life in Astoria, Queens. She spent summers in Clinton, N.J, where she met her husband Kenneth and they became friends at a young age. After growing up together, they were married on July 25, 1948 and spent most of their married Life in the Clinton area. Mrs. Rice worked as a Law Secretary. She then attended Trenton State College while working as a Teacher's Assistant in Clinton Township Public School. Mrs. Rice also assisted her husband Kenneth with his Building Business. They retired to Homestead Senior Living in Columbus, N.J. where they spent many happy years and made wonderful friends. Irene was involved in many activities and social events. They spent winters at the Saddle Bag Resort in Lake Wales, Florida and enjoyed "the Snow Bird "months with several lifelong friends. During their retirement years they traveled to Europe, Alaska and Panama with close friends as well.

They celebrated their 71 st. Wedding Anniversary on July 25, 2019 with a beautiful celebration held by the staff of Mayberry Gardens.

Her husband Kenneth preceded her in death, on November 5, 2019. Mrs. Rice is survived by two children, Larry Rice of Savannah, N.Y. his wife Kathy, and a daughter Diane Rice Gill and her husband Bruce Gill, of Trophy Club, TX. She also has six grandchildren, Lynn Rice Mills (Peter), Jessica Rice, Christopher Gill, Bradley Gill (Meghan) , Sandy Rice Floyd (Vince) and Erick Rice (Lindsay). She has six great- grand-children, Jordan Rice, Sarah Mills, Katelyn Mills,  Lauren Mills, Samantha Floyd, and Emily Rice. Another great -grandson is due in February 2021, to grandson Brad Gill and wife Meghan.

In Lieu of flowers, contributions to the Alzheimer Association in Memory of Irene Rice will be appreciated.

Mrs. Rice was a caring wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her grands and great grands always made her smile.

She will be greatly missed.
