She demonstrated a thirst for knowledge and was enrolled at North Texas State College at the age of fifteen. She took a pert-time job at the Campus Theatre, where she met her first husband, Bill Grooms. She gave birth to two sons, Lindy Ray Grooms and Gregory Paul Grooms, both of whom survive her.

She owned and operated a Merle Norman Cosmetics Studio in Richardson, TX. while caring for second husband, Y.B. Kaiser, until his death. As a beauty consultant, she relished sharing her beauty tips and treatments with her many clients & friends.
