Obituary

Ida Mae Dalton (Hammons) entered the joy of eternal life on January 12th, 2026 where she undoubtedly heard the voice of her Savior say, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

A service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, January 24th at 10:30 AM at The Well Community Church: 600 FM 407 W. Argyle, TX 76226.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, January 26, 2026 at Fort Gibson National Cemetery, Fort Gibson, OK.

Ida was born in Tahlequah, OK on February 27, 1952 to Clue and Loretta Hammons. The daughter of an Air Force family, she lived in many places like Hawaii, San Antonio, Louisiana, and Missouri. It would be in Missouri where Ida met her husband, Terry Dalton, at the age of 16 when they both attended Knob Noster High School. Their first date was the Junior/Senior Prom.

Ida went to cosmetology school, while Terry joined the Army. They were then reunited after Terry's military service and married on November 4, 1972. Ida would work as a beautician until the birth of their first child, when she would shift to being a stay at home mom. Ida loved deeply. That love was evident to Terry and their two girls, Michelle and Nicole. Her love for others overflowed to everyone who knew her, as she served her local church in many capacities, spending more than 50 years volunteering in various church activities, especially children's and preschool ministries. Ida taught preschool classes, served as a Preschool Resource Director, led Girls in Action and Mission Friends, was a Sunday School teacher, a Women’s Ministry Leader, and even helped with setup and teardown in multiple churches over the years. Ida dedicated her life to serving others, and everyone who met her felt immediately cared for.

Ida loved to host events in her home, was one of the best bakers you will ever know, could cook an amazing meal for an army and was willing to do anything to help her family, friends or church family.

A verse she modeled throughout life, up until her last moments, was Jesus’ own words in Matthew 19:14 “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” Ida wanted every child to know how much Jesus loved them, and she faithfully committed her life to serving them.

Ida leaves behind an incredible legacy of love and service. She also leaves behind a wonderful family God blessed her with. Ida is survived by her husband Terry, sisters Kay Williams and Camille Hoverter; daughter Michelle and her husband Eric Anton, their children Ainsley and Luke Anton; daughter Nicole and her husband Gavin Papit, their children Dalton, Shayne, Jude, Asher and Eden Papit.

She is preceded in death by her brother David Hammons, father Clue Hammons and mother Loretta Hammons.
