Hershel Boblow Burkes

April 1, 1945 – August 28, 2026

Hershel Boblow Burkes “PawPaw”, 81, of Sanger, TX, passed away peacefully and pain free under the stars on Friday, August 28, 2026, with his best friend and dog Rusty by his side.

He was proceeded in death by his parents William & Evelyne Burkes, his son David, daughter Donna, and his wife, Theresa Burkes “Meme”, who passed May 12, 2013.

He is survived by his daughters Rebecca “Becky” Baldwin and Lateresa “Leeann” Hunter, his 11 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.

Known as Boblow to his siblings and relatives he grew up with, and as Hershel everywhere else, he was a man who simply could not sit still. He was always the first to jump in and lend a hand on any project. His hard work and hands-on love were how he showed up for the people he cared about, and that spirit will be remembered by everyone who knew him.

Hershel was also one of the most genuine and gentle souls. He was a good friend. The kind of man who would give the shirt off his back without a second thought if it meant helping someone he loved. He was funny, always cracking jokes, making silly noises, or doing whatever it took to get a laugh out of the kids. He gave the best hugs. A big squeeze that no one else could ever quite mimic. He was an amazing husband and an amazing father not only to his children, but the grandchildren he raised as his own.

Hershel was born in Abeline, TX and grew up in San Angelo, TX alongside his 8 siblings, Nolan, Betty Jean, Viola, Mary “Dinky”, Evelyn “Honey”, Edna “Hotshot”, Darlene “Sissy”, and little Dicky.

Hershel was blessed with 3 children David, Donna, and Rebecca during an earlier chapter of life. He then went on to marry the love of his life, Theresa, and the two of them made their home in San Angelo, TX where they welcomed their daughter Lateresa Leeann. They later settled in Corinth, TX where they built their forever home and later raised 4 of their grandchildren, Steven, Megan, Kagan, and Quaylynn.

Hershel spent the last 8 years of his life in Sanger, TX where he spent his days surrounded by family, caring for his chickens, building clocks and other wood working projects, shooting pool, and playing guitar. He loved nothing more than sitting out in his shop getting some fresh “warm” air with his Whataburger cup in hand and his dog at his feet.

Hershel has now been reunited with the love of his life Theresa, and we just know he is spinning her around a dance floor somewhere up in heaven.

Services will be held on Sunday, September 6, 2026 at Mulkey-Bowles-Montgomery Funeral Home located at 705 N Locust St, Denton, TX 76201

Visitation will begin at 1PM followed by a service at 2PM.

Family and friends are welcome to join the family at his home after service concludes to eat, spend time together, and reminisce on all the great memories we have shared with Hershel, Boblow, “PawPaw” over the years.
