Herschel Byrum Boyd Sr. age 89 of Denton passed away Saturday March 11, 2006 at the Vintage . He was born July 20, 1916 in Salesville, Texas to Hubert and Mae (Herring) Boyd. He married Beatrice M. Jones in 1942. She passed away in 1982 after 40 years of marriage. He then married Mabel Lucy Lewis in 1992. She passed away in 2001. He was in the Texas National Guard for 2 years. Served in the Royal Canadian Air Force for 2 years as a Flying Office. He served as an Officer in the Navy during World War II, Korean Conflict and retired as a Commander from the Pentagon in 1968. He attended Weatherford College, Maryland University, Southern Methodist University and University of North Texas where he received his Masters. He taught 2 years at Cook County Jr. College and Taught Industrial Arts in the Denton Independent School District for 11 years. He was a member of the Retired Offices Assoc., Elks Lodge and the V.F.W. Denton.
Herschel is survived by his son Herschel Byrum Boyd Jr. of Denton. Daughter Marsha Brenholtz of Sanger. Stepdaughter Calinda Buice of Denton. Sisters Helen Bellenger and Mildred Chandler both of Weatherford. Ten grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren
Funeral services will be 1 pm Thursday 16, 2006 at the Mulkey-Mason Chapel. Visitation will be 6 to 7 Wednesday March 15, 2006.
