Obituary

Herman B. Brumbelow , 98, of Denton, formerly of Stephenville and Lubbock, Texas, went to be with his Heavenly Father on July 28, 2025. He was born to Jessie Everett and Leola (Boyd) Brumbelow on December 24, 1926, in Fort Bend County, Texas, and will be laid to rest in the same land where he was born.

Proud to call himself a "Country Boy," Herman never strayed far from his roots or his "Country Boy" diet in every aspect of his daily life. Fishing, hunting, and archery were his passions, and fish were said to tremble at the mention of his name or the sound of his voice. He could catch them anywhere, anytime, and fry them up better than anyone. He was especially proud of winning the Texas State Archery Championship with a bow he crafted by hand.

From 1944 to 1946, Herman served proudly in World War II in the U.S. Navy as a First Class Seaman, stationed in the South Pacific aboard the AKA-A-26, then the CVE C-14 and finally on the USS Ticonderoga. The lessons and values he gained from serving the country he loved so much guided him throughout his life. With no formal higher education, he became a self-taught master mechanic, able to fix nearly anything. For nearly 50 years, he was a renowned Volkswagen, Mercedes, and foreign car mechanic, drawing customers from far and wide for his "special touch." He was also delighted in repairing anything family or friends brought his way.

Herman was a member of Greens Creek Baptist Church in Dublin, Texas. He cherished the music of his youth, often playing guitar and singing old favorites with special friends and with Maur Chow, whom he fondly called his favorite granddaughter-in-law. There's no doubt he is now "pickin' and grinnin'" in Heaven.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 75 years, Nadine; his parents; and his brother, J.E. Brumbelow, who passed away at age 16.

Herman is survived by his daughters Carol Fidler and husband Ricky of Stephenville, Texas, and Jo Evelyn Conner and husband Marvin of Springfield, Missouri; grandson Brent Chow and wife Maur of Denton; Brent's Father and Maur Chow's father in law- Max Chow, cousins Jerry and Linda Petty of McKinney, Texas; and cousin Sherry Roehling and husband Charles of Needville, Texas.

The family would like to express a Special Thank You to Trio Hospice and Rose Odera for their devoted and loving care to Herman.

I SAW A MAN

1959

Last night I dreamed

An angel came

He took my hand

He called my name

He bid me look

The other way

I saw a man

I heard him say

He said if I be lifted up

I'll draw all men to me

He turned and then

I saw the nail-scarred hand

That bled for me

I touched the hem of his garment

That fell round him there

My life, my heart, I gave

My soul was in his care

When I awoke

My heart beat so

And in the dark

I saw a glow

This was no dream

He turned my way

Again I heard

My saviour say

He said if I be lifted up

I'll draw all men to me

He turned and then

I saw the nail-scarred hand

That bled for me

I touched the hem of his garment

That fell 'round him there

My life, my heart, I gave

My soul was in his care

(In his care)
