Helen Sue Whittaker Hawpe, 91, of Denton, died Monday April 2, 2007 at Presbyterian Hospital of Denton.
Mrs. Hawpe was born August 10, 1915 in Yale, OK to O.T. and Mary Frances (Fritch) Whittaker. She graduated from high school as senior class president and valedictorian in Cushing, OK in 1933. She graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Education from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater in 1939. She taught elementary school for two years in May, OK. She worked a year for the Consolidated Aircraft Factory in San Diego, CA. She was married to Franz Hawpe on April 25, 1943 in Oklahoma City, OK. She was in the W.A.V.E. in the United States Navy where she was a link trainer instructor in Beeville, TX.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday April 5, 2007 in the chapel of Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Pilot Point Community Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday April 4 at the funeral home.
Survivors include her daughters, Drs. Frances Compton and her husband Will of Chevy Chase, MD, Lisa Blakeley of Denton; brothers, Gene Whittaker of Oklahoma City, OK, Louis Whittaker of Sapulpa, OK; one grandson, Greg Blakeley and his wife, Rachel of Denton.
Mrs. Hawpe was preceded in death by her husband, Franz Hawpe (he died Aug. 1, 1999); sister, Lavina Mattox; brothers, Benton, Floyd and Bob Whittaker.
