Harvey Wendell Thomas of Sanger, Texas joined our heavenly father on Saturday September 8, 2012
Born in Gribble Springs on January 7, 1930 to James Wiley (Buster) and Buena Thomas, Wendell attended his early school years in Sanger until the family moved to California. He graduated from Orange Union High School in 1949. After joining the military he returned to Texas where he met and married Judy and raised three children. For more than 30 years he was a successful custom home builder in Denton County. After retirement, he spent several years in farming before his final retirement a few years ago. During his years in Sanger, Wendell was a little league coach, member of the Lions Club, city councilman and deacon in his church. His ultimate accomplishment was being a great father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Judy, his parents, sister Wanda, one nephew Rocky and niece Tonya.
Wendell is survived by his daughter Deborah Ann and her husband Don Draheim, his son Harvey Wendell Jr. (Buster) and his wife Gina, his son Jeff and his grandchildren Matthew Thomas, Melissa Thomas Morgan and her husband Garrett, Cole Thomas, Cordie Thomas, Chloe Thomas, Caylee Thomas, Blake Draheim, Rachelle Draheim, Aaron Draheim and Sarah Draheim. His great grandchildren are Kaden and Dylan Thomas and Carrie Miller. Wendell is also survived by his sisters Jessie, Bunny, Rachel, Sandy and his brother James as well as all his nieces and nephews and a brother in law Robert Cudd..
A funeral service will be held at 10 A.M. on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 in the First Baptist Church of Sanger with Dr. E. L. McNeil, and Dr. Greg Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Gribble Springs Cemetery. The family will be at the Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home, 705 N. Locust, Denton for visitation on Monday, September 10, 2012 from 6 PM until 8 PM.
