Obituary

Gustin (Gus) Richard, resident of Justin, Texas, passed away at the age of 80 on September 6th, 2023, surrounded by family. Gus was born July 23, 1943, in Jennings, Louisiana to Cyrus and Zoa (Roy) Richard. Following his high school graduation, Gus joined the Navy in 1960, but after serving his four years, re-enlisted in the Army – at the suggestion of his older brother James, where he proudly served with honor for over two decades until his retirement in 1985 as Chief Warrant Officer 3 (CWO3). Gus had an exemplary military career, receiving many military honors including National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Good Conduct Medal (2), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (3), Meritorious Service Medal, and Big Red One (BRO) PRO Award.

Gus met the love of his life, Judith (Judi) Marie Wright, in New Jersey and eventually married in Tampa, Florida. Gus and Judi enjoyed military life and raising their three children along the way. Gus loved golf – playing and watching, and "exercising" at Winstar Casino in Oklahoma after he could no longer play golf. Gus wasn't a big talker – he left that up to Judi, but he had a quick wit and infectious smile that made his hazel blue-green eyes light up. He exhibited a strong presence and calm demeanor where people automatically showed respect whenever he walked into the room. He also enjoyed music – mostly Country & Western (the old stuff) and said that his car only "knew one station – C&W".

Gus was preceded in death by his love and soulmate, Judi, parents Cyrus and Zoa, brothers Jerry Richard and Dale Richard.

Gus is survived by his children, Erin Richard of Justin, Mark Richard of Topeka, Kansas, Lori (Marty) Bubany of Fort Worth, grandchildren, Cory Martinez of Justin, Erika Martinez of Justin, Lisa (Rodrigo) Zamora of Rhome, Gabrielle Boullion-Richard, Mark Richard II of Missouri, Mathew Richard of Kentucky, Brandon (Maritel) Richard of New Fairview, Evan (Anna) Richard of Saginaw, Drew (Julie) Richard of Decatur, Nicholas Bubany of Fort Worth, great-grandchildren Sierra Smith-Martinez of Dodge City, Kansas, Jaiden Williams-Martinez of Wichita, Kansas, Malachi Williams-Martinez of Wichita, Kansas, Kadi Foskuhl-Martinez of Vassar, Kansas, Ryan Williams-Martinez of Wichita, Kansas, Jordan Martinez of Wichita, Kansas, Kyrin Martinez of Wichita, Kansas, Kash Martinez of Wichita, Kansas, Rhianna Brent of Justin, Xavier Zamora of Rhome, Sisters Bobbie Wilkinson of Welsh, Louisiana, Trudy Breaux of Lacassine, Louisiana, brother James (Priscilla) Richard of Iowa, Louisiana, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
