Obituary

Dr. Griffin B. Huey, 84, of Denton, died Friday, February 10, 2006 at Presbyterian Hospital of Denton. He was born November 19, 1921 in Denton to F. B. and Gwendolyn (Chambers) Huey, pioneer Denton County Families. He was a Graduate of Denton Public Schools, Valedictorian Class of 1938, the University of North Texas in Chemistry, 1942, and the University of Texas College of Dentistry in 1945, and is a member of the Tontine of the University of Texas College of Dentistry. He was commissioned a Lt. in the U. S. Army, and then transferred to the U. S. Navy as a Lt. and served for two years in China, during World War II. He was married to Dr. Mary Evelyn Blagg in Denton, on August 21, 1954. He is a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he served as both Deacon and Elder. He was a member of the Denton Kiwanis Club for 55 Years, and received the Legion of Honor in 2003 for 50 Years Service, Denton County Food Bank, and formerly served as President of the Denton County Dental Society. He received a 50 Year Award form the Texas Dental Association in 1996. He has been a dentist in the Denton community for 40 years, retiring in 1987 to travel the world with his wife.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 A. M. on Monday, February 13, 2006 in the First Presbyterian Church, 1114 W. University Dr., Denton, with Rev. Steve Nilmeier, officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. The family will be at the funeral home for visitation from 4:30 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. Sunday, February 12, 2006. Memorials may be made to the Griffin B. Huey Honors Scholarship Fund in General Chemistry at the University of North Texas.

Pallbearers will be: Bob Estes, George Hubbard, Bob Norton, Robert Jones, Sid Rogers, Bennie Snider, David Storrie, Jim Wellborn.

Dr. Huey is survived by his wife, Dr. Mary Evelyn Blagg Huey, President Emeritus of Texas Woman's University; a son and daughter-in-law, Henry Griffin and Colleen Huey of Round Rock; and two brothers, Charles Huey and F.B. Huey, Jr. of Fort Worth, Texas; and one grandson Greg Huey of Round Rock.
