Obituary

Gladys Neoma Stokes (Mimi), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend; passed away peacefully in Plano, TX on January 7, 2023. Her love, generosity and selflessness will never be forgotten.

Gladys was born to Thomas Laverne Mapp and Ellen Sue Paite in Hobbs, NM, on December 19, 1949, the eldest of six children. She grew up in Hobbs, NM and graduated from Hobbs High School in 1967. She told many stories of all the wonderful times she had growing up with her brothers and sisters in the eastern New Mexico oil patch.

On July 17, 1982, Gladys married Ricky Stokes in Krum, TX. They met at the Broken Spoke Saloon in Denton, TX and the rest was history. They were by each other's side for over 40 years raising kids, traveling, going to baseball tournaments, and making lasting memories.

She spent over 30 years working for CoServ before retiring in 2015. She developed many meaningful and lasting relationships there and within her community throughout those years which she had always cherished.

Traveling with her sisters created many fond memories, whether they were hitting up a casino, enjoying Colorado bulldogs or in their later years, Hallmark movies and many other adventures, they held an incredible bond. Her greatest joy, though, came from being with and spoiling her grandkids. We will always continue to remind them of the Great Love Mimi had for them all.

Gladys is preceded in death by her father, Thomas Mapp; mother, Sue Couch; and beloved grandson, Nicholas Thompson. She is survived by her husband, Ricky Stokes; sons Jimmy Thompson and wife Dee, Brian Thompson and wife Jennifer, and Bo Stokes and wife Courtney; sisters, Pam Miller and husband Leonard, Karen Good and husband Chet, and Linda Cameron and husband Dale; brothers, Rodney Mapp and wife Laynae, and Doolie Mapp; beloved grandchildren, Briana Thompson, Luke Stokes, Leighton Stokes, and Jade Fullington; along with many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to send their sincere thanks and gratitude to the nurses and doctors at Baylor Scott & White Heart Hospital in Plano, that cared for and spent countless hours with her over her last few months of life.
