Obituary

Gladys Lewis Maynard, 77, of Denton, died Thursday, May 29, 2008 in Denton, TX  She was born February 5, 1931 in Twin Bridges, MT to William and Dolly Mailey Lewis. Gladys graduated from the University of Montana with a Bachelors of Music Education.  She was married to Judson Maynard on June 9, 1953 in Missoula, MT. While raising three daughters, she gave private piano lessons and served as a substitute teacher for many years.Gladys was a gifted musician, a gourmet cook, and creative seamstress. She devoted her life to the care of others through her tireless efforts to fight the causes of world hunger. She was active in the League of Women Voters and the Episcopal Church at the local, diocesan, and national levels.  For the past several years, she has been a member of The Episcopal Church of the Annunciation in Lewisville.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on June 7, 2008 in TheEpiscopal Church of the Annunciation, 602 North Old  Orchard Lane,Lewisville, TX 75067,  with The Rev. Courtland Moore as the Officiant, assisted   by The Rev. David Holland. Memorials may be made to the Organ Fund, c/o The Episcopal Church of the Annunciation, P.O.Box 292365, Lewisville, TX 75209-2365, or to the Heifer Fund at Heifer Project International,  1 World Avenue, Little Rock, AR/USA 72202. Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home, 705 N. Locust, Denton, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Maynard is survived by her husband, Judson Maynard of Denton, TX; three daughters and sons-in-law, the Rev. Dana Lynn Orwig andSteven Rhea Orwig, M.D. of Oklahoma City, OK;  Mary Catherine Bowles, and Gary Lynn Bowles of Arlington, TX; and Polly Maynard Watson and Barry Watson of Denton, TX; a sister, Margaret Houck of Louisville, KY; and six grandchildren, Rosemary Alice Rodgers, Grace Elizabeth Hill, William Maynard Bowles, Molly Alisse Bowles Eadie, Sylvia Rose Watson, Amelia Grace Watson; and two great-grandchildren, Matthew Alexander Rodgers, and Jason Daniel Rodgers.
