George J. Karas, 88, of Sanger, Texas, died Thursday, December 9, 2021 at Brookhaven Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Carrollton
George was born on September 11, 1933 in his parents' farmhouse near Carbon, Alberta, Canada. He grew up on the farm, milking cows, driving farm machinery, working with animals and developing strong work ethics. He had a lot of musical talent and, when very young, earned many nickels by singing for visitors. This talent served him well as in later years, he entertained at many Legions, Elks Clubs and for family and friends.
Since George was a dual citizen, he served in the Canadian Navy and later in the United States Navy. Truck driving was one of his passions and he delivered Peterbilt trucks for many years. Another passion was his love of horses, cattle, kittens and anything connected with ranching & rodeos. He was retired from Peterbilt, County of Denton and DCTA.
George was predeceased by his parents – George John and Lydia (Bitz) Karas, his wife, Eleanora, brothers Lester, Harvey and Arthur Karas - sons, Harvey George and David Lee Karas & stepdaughter Joni Kuethe. He is survived by sister, Roseleen Frances Floen, (Willard) of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; sons Kenneth Karas of Cape Coral, FL, and Alan Karas (Stacey) of West Berlin, NJ; former wife, Jane Karas of Minnesota; step children, Gary Kuethe of Ohio and Brenda Kuethe of Minnesota; grandchildren Eleanor Karas, Harvey Karas, Kenneth Shiles, Joshua Karas, Marisa Karas and Alex Karas; Great grandchildren, Travis Creamer and Kalani Shiles; Nieces Elaine (Peter) Nieuwold, Sandra VanDyke, Nephews: Paul Karas, Bruce Floen, Keith (Lana) Floen, Steven (Emerald) Floen.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at Mulkey-Bowles-Montgomery Funeral Home, 705 N. Locust St., Denton. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday, December 16, 2021 at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas.
