George William Haas, Jr., age 66, passed away peacefully at home on September 7, 2014 in Denton, TX due to complications from a stroke.
George was born to the late George W. Haas and Velma M. Haas, in Mercedes, TX on October 20, 1947. He spent his youth in Donna, Texas and graduated from Donna High School in 1966. He graduated from Pan American University in 1969 with a degree in Accounting and moved to Houston, TX. He went to work for McRae Oil, where he met his wife, Judy Silkwood; they were married in 1973. The couple was blessed with Julie Christine in 1976 and Laurie Elizabeth in 1979. They resided in Houston until 1991 when George was hired by Parker & Parsley Petroleum in Midland, Texas. The family lived in Midland until 1998 when the company, now Pioneer Natural Resources, moved to Las Colinas. George worked for Pioneer for 22 years. In late 2012, he had to stop working due to the onset of semantic dementia. George and Judy lived in Valley Ranch in Irving until the end of 2012; then they moved to Robson Ranch in Denton, Texas.
George enjoyed gardening, boating, exercising, and traveling to visit their grandchildren and family. His children remember him as a kind and loving father who worked hard to provide them the best life possible.
George was a passionate Christian who spent many hours devoted to Bible study. He was a long standing member of King of Glory Lutheran Church in Dallas. After they relocated to Robson Ranch, they attended Valley Creek Church in Denton.
George is survived by his wife, Judy; his daughters, Julie Smith of Midland, TX and Laurie Funk of Katy, TX; his grandchildren: Madison Summey, Hunter German, Ashton Funk and Callie Funk; and his sister, Clara Pyle, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Leila Hoskinson; and his brother, Joe E. Haas.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 14th at the Robson Ranch Club in Denton, TX with a reception to follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate George's life.
