George Clayton Buckley Sr., age 84, died on Thursday August 1, 2019 at the Renaissance Care Center in Gainesville, Texas. Born in Alloy, West Virginia, on August 15, 1934 to Freda Petry and George Hiram Buckley, George was the oldest of his siblings Frederick, Janet Loretta, Linda, and Betty Carol who died before her first birthday. He was raised in West Virginia and attended Gully Bridge High School before enlisting in the Air Force.
On August 2, 1952, he married Pearl Kinnamon prior to being deployed for active duty. At the young age of 17, he was stationed in Greenland during the Korean War monitoring Russian activity and served as the unit cook. After being discharged, he moved to Dallas to begin his family with his doting wife Pearl Buckley. By the age of 20, they had three children. With a spirit for adventure, George embarked on many entrepreneurial endeavors including opening a pet shop, living on a farm in Seagoville, owning a truck stop and restaurant, running a restaurant cleaning business, and even window washing skyscrapers in Downtown Dallas.
He is survived by his daughter Connie, son, George Jr. (Colleen); 8 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife Pearl, his daughter Terry, and his sibling Betty. A visitation will take place at Mulkey-Bowles Montgomery Funeral Home on Sunday, August 4, 2019 from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at 10:00 am at Valley View Cemetery.
