Genevieve May Houser Scott, 86, passed away on November 14, 2005 in Denton, TX. Genevieve was the beloved only child of the late Bernice Henry Houser and Miles Shaw Houser of Bluffton, Indiana. Genevieve was born in her Grandfather, Clement Houser's home in Young America, Indiana on October 5, 1919, the year American women got the vote. She graduated Salutatorian from Bluffton High School Class of 1937, and received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Purdue University in 1941, where she became a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. Upon graduation, she joined IBM where she met Eugene Victor Scott, of Akron, Ohio. They were married in the Little Church on the Circle in Indianapolis in 1942. The groom entered the military shortly thereafter.
Genevieve followed the trajectory of her husband's career in the computer industry, but Indiana was always "Home". In 1970, they retired to Argyle, near Denton in North Texas. Eugene passed away in Denton in 2000, and was interred in the Dallas/Fort Worth National Cemetery where Genevieve joins him in death.
Wherever career took them, Genevieve was always ready to serve. She was active in many church and civic organizations including the Parent/Teachers' Association, the League of Women Voters, the Argyle Volunteer Fire Department Women's Auxiliary, and the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Denton.
Genevieve is survived by a son and two daughters, Vicki Jean Scott of Sante Fe, New Mexico, Brian Lee Scott and wife Kathleen, and Sarah Bernice Scott, all of Denton, Texas; six grandchildren, Miles David Scott and Roslyn Simmons, both of Los Angeles, California, Charles Ray Scott and wife Carey of Savannah, Georgia, Charles Frances Ojo Mundy-Castle and wife Katherine of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Jenny Jane Bernice Mundy-Castle of Sante Fe, New Mexico, and Rebecca Scott of Gainesville, Florida, as well as many dear cousins and loving friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday November 25, 2005 at the Denton Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. Rev. Jace Kahn will officiate the service.
In lieu of flowers, Genevieve and her family would appreciate donations to the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 1111 Cordell, Denton, TX 76201, in her name.
We Thank God for a Long Life Well Lived!
