Gene R Qualls, longtime Denton resident and fixture in the community, passed away Thursday April 29 th , 2021. Gene was born April 30th, 1936 in Hillsboro, TX to Thurston and Vivian Qualls, who preceded him on his new journey in 1966 and 2007. As a youth Gene lived in Ventura, California and Port Townsend, Washington where his father was stationed in WW II. He attended Denton High and the University of North Texas where he met and befriended Pat Boone with whom he maintained a lifelong friendship. Gene was a long time member of the Pearl Street and Welch Street Church of Christ. He worked for and retired from the University of North Texas. Gene cut a colorful path around town in his '67 Impala, always nattily attired in bright suits and ties, along with his white oxfords. Handicapped in his youth, he never let that slow him down, making friends everywhere he went. He will be missed. Gene is survived by a number of cousins.
