Gary Lee "Yankee" Anderson, 75, passed away on Monday, August 22, 2022 at Medical City of Plano in Plano Texas. Gary suffered terribly during the last four years of his life, enduring multiple surgeries, and beating bladder cancer, before finally succumbing to sepsis, having never recovered from a broken femur and shattered hip.

Gary was born July 17, 1947 in Warren, Ohio. The son of Lois McCabe Anderson and Charles Roberts, he was later adopted by his stepfather Melvin Anderson.

Gary attended schools in North Dakota, as well as Alexandria, Minnesota. He was of the Catholic faith.

Gary served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Ticonderoga as an EN3 from September 8, 1964 to August 6, 1968; followed by the U.S. Navy Reserves through September 29,1970. During his service he earned the National Defense Service Medal, The Vietnam War Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, as well as three Bronze Stars.

In civilian life, Gary earned his CDL license and worked in construction as a cement finisher and heavy equipment operator. He married the love of his life, Barbara Ellen McCracken, on September 2, 1972.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents Lois Anderson and Charles Roberts, his stepfather Melvin Anderson, and brother John Anderson.

Gary is survived and will be deeply missed by his wife Barbara and their children – son Jason Robert Anderson of Valley View, Texas, and daughter Jamie Lynn Anderson Wilder (Aaron Wilder) of Little Elm, Texas. Four grandchildren – Jauslyn Anderson Case (Jarret Case), Jaedyn Anderson (Patrick Hoyd), Justice Anderson, and Parker Wilder. Two great-grandchildren – Kennedi Hoyd and Konnor Hoyd, as well as future great-grandson Reece James Case. In addition, Gary is survived by several extended family members and friends.

Cremation has taken place and a military committal service will be held at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at 10:00 A.M.
