Obituary

The man. The myth. The legend.

USAF CMSgt (Ret) Frederick Fass, 92, died peacefully at home on November 29, 2021.

Born in NYC on September 13, 1929 to parents Carl & Ethel (Peters) Fass, he grew up in Brooklyn with his younger brother Norman and surrounded by grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.  He joined the Boy Scouts of America in 1942, graduated from Manual Training High School in 1947 and attended Brooklyn College before enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1948.

While stationed at Yokohama AFB in Japan, he served in the Korean War as a bombing assessment photographer and anti-aircraft gunner.  In 1954 he earned his AAS degree in Radar Technology and over the next 25 years served the USAF in military electronics & mechanical maintenance on heavy high radar and radio systems for the Strategic Air Command division in England and across the U.S., including deployments to Alaska radar sites guarding against Soviet aircraft attacks during the Cold War.

In 1979 he retired as CMSgt and moved his family to Denton, TX. He graduated Cum Laude from the University of North Texas with a BAAS in Occupational Training & Development.  Continuing in the military aerospace industry, as a civilian contractor, he developed various maintenance & systems manuals; including the USAF B-1B Bomber, USAF F-16 Fighting Falcon, and Air Force One.

He enjoyed photography, numismatics, computer programming, mathematics, and was a licensed amateur & commercial radio operator. His passion was target shooting; a lifetime member of the NRA since 1953, he attained sharpshooter status in 1956, and won numerous solo/team trophies in both pistol and rifle championships.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife Pamela (Turner) Fass, whom he met and married in 1959 while stationed in Suffolk, England; and his younger brother Norman. He is survived by his five children Steven, Richard (Dawn), Leanne, Suzanne (Billy Ray), and Terri; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.  A devoted and dedicated family man, he encouraged higher education, a strong work ethic, and to enjoy every moment life has to offer.  He was held in the highest regard by all who loved him and will be deeply missed.

He will be laid to rest alongside his loving wife, in a private ceremony, with military honors at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery in Texas.
