Obituary

Francis Burdick, age 84, of Flower Mound, passed away Friday, March 7, 2008, at his home.

He was born December 12, 1923 in Yale, Oklahoma to Jesse Lee and Lottie Courtney Burdick. Francis married Wanda Rohde on June 3, 1944 in Bryan, Texas. He served in the United States Army during World War II in the European, African, and Middle Eastern Campaigns and later served in the Army of Occupation in Germany. He was a sergeant in the 409th Company of the 103rd Infantry Division and received the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious achievement in ground combat. He was also honored by the Consul General of France and joined by Texan Governor Rick Perry for his participation and sacrifices in the liberation of France from Nazi occupation. Francis was involved in liberating some of the six concentration camps that surrounded Landsberg, Germany.

Francis was a native of Oklahoma and member of the First Families of Oklahoma. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a bachelor's degree in business. He was owner of King's Drug Store in Lewisville. King's Drug was a landmark in the history of Lewisville. Francis served as a mentor to many young people who worked at the drug store. Lewisville citizens as well as friends and family have fond memories of "Mr. B". Francis was district manager of consumer products division of Pfizer, Inc. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, a 32nd degree York Route mason and was a member of Hella Temple Shriners.

Francis was a founding member of the Anglican Church of the Resurrection in Flower Mound as well as the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection in Dallas and the Episcopal Holy Trinity Church in Dallas. He is remembered by his extended family of church friends for his faithfulness while serving on the vestry and other ministries within the church.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda; daughter, Susan Buckley and her husband, Rex of Friendswood, Texas; grandchildren, Clay Reaves and Lindsey Reaves; sister, Kay Shickles; and brother, Mike Burdick as well as many extended family and friends. We will all miss our "sweetheart husband", "my little Daddy", "Poppy", "F.M.", "Mr. B", and "Burdick". We want to remember him in our hearts and memories forever as he taught us all how to care and love one another.

A memorial service to celebrate Francis Burdick's life will be held 3:00 p.m. Wednesday,

March 12, 2008 , at Trietsch Memorial United Methodist Church in Flower Mound. The Reverend Henry Pendergrass will officiate the service. The family requests memorial contributions to be made to the building fund of Church of The Resurrection, PO Box 271447, Flower Mound, Texas 75027.
