IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Floretta Hicks
Brock
February 10, 1935 – November 24, 2024
Floretta Hicks Brock of Denton, TX 89 years old, answered her Savior's call and drew her last breath on this earth and met Jesus face to face on Sunday evening, November 24, 2024.
Floretta was born in her grandparent's home in Council Hill, Oklahoma on February 10, 1935. Her childhood home was in Boynton, Oklahoma.
She attended Boynton Schools through high school, graduating from Boynton High School in 1953. She just recently attended her 71st high school reunion in Boynton and enjoyed reuniting with friends and family. Floretta attended Connor's Junior College and then transferred to Oklahoma A&M University in Stillwater, Oklahoma. She graduated with her bachelor's degree in 1957. Floretta was part of the last graduating class of Oklahoma A&M before they changed the name of the school to Oklahoma State University. When the school offered to replace her diploma with one that said Oklahoma State University she refused, in her words, "She didn't go to OSU, she went to Oklahoma A&M."
While attending college in Stillwater, she began going to church with Nolan and Raye Brock, who would select her and several other college students from the dorm, take them to Church and then take them to their house for a home cooked meal for Sunday lunch. On one of those Sunday afternoons, she met the love of her life, Nolan and Raye's son, Fred Brock.
Fred and Floretta were married on July 4, 1958, at First Baptist Church in Boynton. Floretta began teaching school in Oklahoma where Fred and Floretta started their family. They moved to Grants, NM in 1962 where Fred and Floretta taught school at the Laguna Acoma Indian Reservation. Fred and Floretta moved to Texas in 1971 and eventually moved to Denton, TX in 1978 and began working at Camp Copass Baptist Encampment.
At Camp Copass, Floretta got to share her love and talent for cooking while working in the kitchen. Floretta worked there until 1996. In 1996, she began cooking and taking care of children, first at an established daycare and eventually in her home. She took care of children until 2017 when she finally retired.
Floretta's passion in life was telling people about Jesus and teaching Bible studies at her church and in her home. Her life revolved around her relationship with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Floretta is preceded in death by her husband, Fred Brock, her parents Clifford and Laura Hicks, one sister Freda Gutherie and other family members.
