EVELYN “MAXINE” EVANS sadly passed away on April 24, 2026. She was born on October 7th, 1935, Argyle, TX. Born the third child of Cecil Clarence Robinson and Gladys Isabel Gibbons, her family included two older brothers and a younger sister.
Her youth included living in several places, including her elementary days in Keller, TX, and grades 5-8 at Argyle Rural School. For the ninth grade, she attended North Texas State College (UNT) Demonstration School. She finished her secondary education as a third-generation graduate of Denton High School. DHS offered her many Home Economics courses, which she applied to as a mother.
She excelled as a homemaker, in tending a garden that grew a variety of vegetables, and as a seamstress making clothes and a quilt. She coordinated many family vacations. She worked outside clerical jobs when needed. When the nest was emptied, she and her husband, Bill of Argyle, continued to travel in a motor home with destinations that included Alaska and many western states. Their travels included many bluegrass music festivals.
The Christian faith was a consistent influence in her life. She recognized God’s love and Jesus’ sacrifice for sin, and prayed, was baptized, and joined Argyle Baptist Church at the young age of 10. She remembered singing “Oh Happy Day” for weeks at home. Her contributions to the church included Women’s activities (WMU), hospitality, and the privilege of taking a tape recording of the Sunday Sermon to the home-bound elderly. She rarely missed her women’s Sunday School class until she was unable. An illness caused her to be under skilled-care for the elderly until she went home to be with God.
She will be missed by all, including family, friends, and church members. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil Clarence Robinson and Gladys Isabel Gibbons, and her husband, Billy Gene Evans. She is survived by her two sons Randel “Kent” Evans of Argyle, and Cary Brent Evans of Denton, many cousins, including “double cousins” and multiple nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews. She loved all of her family.
The family will receive friends at the former FBC Argyle, now Argyle Community Church Student Center at 414 N Hwy 377, Argyle, TX, from 1:30 to 3:00 PM. Funeral services will be held the same day at 3:00 PM, Sunday, May 3, 2026, with Dr. Gary Baldwin of Louisiana officiating. Interment will be in Prairie Mound Cemetery under the direction of Mulkey Bowles Montgomery Funeral Home.
