Evelyn Seargeant Fikes, 86 of Denton, died Friday, March 18, 2005 at the Vintage Nursing Home in Denton. She was born April 12, 1918 in Bertram, TX to Andrew Harrison and Gertrude (Chance) Seargeant. She came from a pioneer Texas family where both her maternal and paternal heirs were Spanish Land Grant recipients prior to Texas independence in 1836. She was married to Jack Fikes, in Panhandle, TX on December 9, 1938, he died June 5, 1982. Mrs. Fikes, for years was the manager of Miss Henleys' Dress Shop adjacent to the North Texas Campus and later at the Texas Womans University store until her retirement in 1980. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grand-mother, and great grandmother. Her positive attitude, humor, and kindness will be missed by many.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 2 P.M. Monday, March 21, 2005 at Roselawn Memorial Park, with Rev. Cliff Feeler, officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. The family will be at the funeral home, form 3 P.M. until 4 P. M. Sunday for visitation.

She is survived by a daughter, Jackie Wright, of Sanger, a son and daughter-in-law, Don and Rika Fikes, of Argyle, two sisters, Geneva Heck, of Cimmaron, New Mexico and Ruth Bull, of Springer, New Mexico, and five grandchildren Marla Denham of Sanger, Billy Wright of Sanger, Scott Fikes of Houston, Thomas Fikes of Dallas, and Will Fikes, of Austin, and Six Great Grandchildren. In Lieu of flowers, the family request, contributions be made to the charity of your choice.
