Erle Clyde (Gig) Mayo Jr., 73 of Denton and previously of Coleman, Texas passed away on December 11, 2015. He was born December 11, 1942 in Brownwood, Texas to Erle Clyde Mayo, Sr. and Vivian (Leach) Mayo. Gig graduated from Coleman High School in 1960 and joined the Navy soon afterward where he served until 1962. He met his love, Lurlene Morse, and moved to Denton where they both attended UNT. They married on July 3, 1965 at the First Methodist Church of Denton.
After attending UNT, Gig was employed as a mail carrier and later managed vehicle maintenance for the Denton Post Office he retired in 1992. In 1969, Gig was a founding member of the Early Automobile Club of Denton. He was also a long time member of the North Texas Corvette Club and enjoyed car shows and swap meets. He had a passion for restoring antique cars, the sound of a Harley Davidson, and traveling with his family in his RV.
Gig is survived by his wife Lurlene, daughter Natalie Riegelman and her husband John and their twin girls Maya and Zoey, all of Denton along with countless good friends and neighbors. He was a sweet husband and father and will be greatly missed by everyone that knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 15, 2015, from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home, 705 N. Locust, Denton, followed by a memorial service on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at the Patterson-Appleton Arts Center, 400 East Hickory, Denton.
