Emma Jane Shirley Mitchell died Monday, January 7, 2008 at the age of 82 at the Cottonwood Nursing Home in Denton, Texas. Jane spent most of her life in and around the Heights Area of Houston and graduated from Reagan High School. She moved to Denton in late 2004 to be near her family. Jane was born October 28, 1925 in Jacksonville, Texas to Bobbie Lee and James Thomas Shirley. On April 8, 1944 she married Harvey L. Mitchell in Houston, Texas

She was preceded in death by her husband and infant son, Michael; her parents and three brothers, Harvey, Harry and Travis Shirley. She is survived by a son, Wayne L. Mitchell and daughter –in-law, Marcia Staff of Denton; granddaughters Kinsey Mitchell Wall of Houston and Lauren Mitchell Bailey of Dallas, and two grandsons-in-law.

Jane's remains will be interred next to her late husband at a private family service at Woodlawn Cemetery in Houston. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the American Diabetes Association or the charity of your choice.
