Elsie E. Self, age 94, passed away Friday, December 29, 2017 at her home in Fort Worth. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at Mulkey-Bowles-Montgomery Funeral Home, 705 N. Locust St., Denton. Visitation will be held prior to the service starting at 1:00 PM until service time. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, Denton.
Elsie was born May 30, 1923 to Benjamin and Fredrieka Linenschmidt in the Blue Mound Community. She was one of eight children. She graduated from Krum High School in 1939 and moved to Dallas to work for North American Aviation during the War years.
She married Grover C. Self, Jr. on December 20, 1947 and had four children. She and her husband Grover raised their family in the Blue Mound Community and Argyle and she was a member of Argyle United Methodist Church. She moved to Fort Worth to be near her daughter in 2005. Elsie was preceded in death by her husband and infant son David, and by her sister Bernie Pettit, and brothers, Ruben, who died as an infant, Elmer, Herbert, Ace, Milton, and Carl Linenschmidt.
She is survived by her sons, Steven Self and his wife Karen of Muenster and Ronnie Self and his husband Bernard Bonnet of Houston, and by a daughter, Freda Calabrese and her husband Glenn of Fort Worth. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Benjamin, Joshua and his wife Allison, and Ashley Self and his wife Dala, and Bailey and Kylie Calabrese. She also had two great-grandchildren, Caleb and Elliott Rose Self. Elsie valued family above all else, and instilled in her children and grandchildren the values she held dearest: love, determination, respect, and appreciation for others.
