Obituary

Eldredge Nolan Craven, Sr., 92, of Shreveport, LA, formerly of Denton, Texas, passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2013 at Christus Schumpert Highland Hospital in Shreveport, Louisiana. He was born on June 23, 1921 in Newton County, Mississippi to Phillip Pierce and Katie Anna (Kitchens) Craven. Nolan graduated from Ouachita Parish High School in Monroe, Louisiana and attended LA Tech. He served in the United States Air Force from 1943 to 1947 being discharged as a Captain. He began his railroad career with the Missouri Pacific Railroad and retired as Assistant Superintendent for the Union Pacific Railroad in 1982. Nolan was married to Alvis Marvell Sawyer on March 19, 1940. She passed away on November 6, 2004. He is a member of the First Baptist Church of Denton.
Mr. Craven is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Eldredge Nolan Craven, Jr. and Jimmye Carolyn of Shreveport, LA; three granddaughters, Ellen Craven Ray, Holly Nahrgang Baylor, and Julie Nahrgang; and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Norma Lee Nahrgang, and a granddaughter, Laura Craven Sanders.
A funeral service under the direction of Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmidt &Son Funeral Home will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, December 14 in the Cindy Nichols Chapel of First Baptist Church, 1100 Malone St., Denton with Rev. Cliff Feeler officiating. A visitation hour will be held prior to the service. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Denton Building Fund.
