Denton – Edwin Ray Mullens, 78, passed away Saturday, November 16, 2019. Visitation and a memorial service will be held Saturday, November 23 at Mulkey-Bowles-Montgomery Funeral Home in Denton, TX. The family will greet friends beginning at 9:00 a.m. The memorial service will follow at 10:00 a.m., immediately after visitation. A graveside interment will be held at a later date.
Ed was born January 10, 1941 in Denton, Texas to Grady and Helen (Brandenberger) Mullens. He graduated from Denton High School in 1959. He married Judy Lynn Green on June 9, 1961. Together they had three children, Mark Ray Mullens, Lisa Michelle Phelps, and Mitchell Edwin Mullens. Ed's career spanned work in the banking industry at Denton County National Bank and Farmers and Merchants Bank and then in the paper business at Metroplex Paper and Supply and Man-U-Fax. Later in his career he worked for Scott Brown Properties and C&M Repair.
Ed's passions were hunting, fishing, and the outdoors. He was especially fond of the mountains. He took great pleasure in his many friends and his family. Ed was known for his sense of humor and his love for John Wayne and western movies.
Those left to honor his memory include his children Mark R. Mullens and his wife, Laurie, Lisa Mullens Phelps, and Mitchell E. Mullens and his wife, Cassie. His grandchildren Cole Mullens, Kyle Mullens, Collin Mullens, Landry Phelps, Carter Phelps, and Parker Phelps all of Denton, TX and his niece Di'Lynn Finley of Denton and his nephew, Charles Edwin "Ed" Finley, Jr. of Ponder. Ed had one great-grandchild, Wesley Mullens, who was the delight of his life in his last years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Grady and Helen Mullens, sisters, Sherry Finley and Patsy Darline Mullens, and his wife Judy Lynn Green.
Ed grew up in the Baptist church and died knowing his Lord and Savior. He spent many years with his best friend and companion, Joann Boyd, and they enjoyed many travels around the United States and quiet evenings together. He was a generous man who loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He will be missed by many and his memory will live on in the lives of all who loved him.
