Obituary

On Wednesday, January 27, 2021, our beloved father and Grandad, Edward Tefertiller, went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, departing peacefully while surrounded by his loved ones three days shy of his 89th birthday.

Edward Harold Tefertiller was born January 30, 1932, to Homer Marion Tefertiller, Sr., and Ruby Agnes (Gentry) Tefertiller, in Noble, OK.  He grew up in the towns of Noble, Wayne, and Purcell, OK, but always called Purcell home. Growing up as one of six children on an Oklahoma farm during the Great Depression and WWII, Ed learned firsthand the importance of a strong work ethic, solid Christian faith, and what it means to be a good provider for his family.

Ed served in the U.S. Air Force, enlisting in 1952 and honorably discharged in 1956. After the Air Force, he also served in the Army Reserve.

Ed attended Oklahoma State University, Arlington College, and completed his Bachelor's Degree at Texas A&M University in College Station, TX, where he also earned his Master's Degree in Agriculture Economics.

In 1955 he met his wife, Karen Day Jones, on a blind date that turned into a lifetime. Karen and Ed were married June 23, 1957, in Oklahoma City, OK, and remained married for 62 years until Karen's passing in 2019.

Ed's career in the field of Agriculture Economics took him and his family to live and work in Southwest Louisiana and the Rio Grande Valley, TX.  In 2001, they retired and moved to the DFW area to be near their children and grandkids.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He often shared funny stories of memorable hunting or fishing trips with his kids, their spouses, nephews, coworkers, and friends.

Ed was preceded in death by the love of his life, Karen; his parents, Homer and Ruby Tefertiller; all of his siblings and most of their spouses (Velma and Elmer (E.J.) Perdue, Kenneth Tefertiller, Bobby and Peggy Tefertiller, Homer and Marie Tefertiller, and Elsie and Francis Yager); his son-in-law, Kevin Rawlings; and many friends and loved ones.

Surviving Ed are his children, Allison and husband Tim Thibodeaux of Grapevine, TX, Janet Rawlings of Denton, TX, Jennifer and husband Ray Jones of Lake Dallas, TX, and Russell and wife Amanda Tefertiller of Fort Worth, TX; his grandchildren Brooke and husband TJ Jezek, Jordan Rawlings and fiancé Hayden Heath, Jr., Blake Thibodeaux, Brock Thibodeaux, Matthew Rawlings, Logan Jones, and Nolan Tefertiller; sister-in-law Waynell Tefertiller of Gainesville, FL; and many nieces and nephews whom he held dear to his heart.

Viewing will be at Mulkey-Bowles-Montgomery Funeral Home in Denton, TX, on Saturday, February 6, 2021 from 9 am – 10 am, with the service to follow at 10 am officiated by Joe Slater, Ed & Karen's preacher from the Justin Church of Christ. Pallbearers will be TJ Jezek, Hayden Heath, Jr., Blake Thibodeaux, Brock Thibodeaux, Ray Jones, Tim Thibodeaux, and Steve Tefertiller.  Graveside service and burial will be at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell, Oklahoma at 3 pm on the same day. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Justin Church of Christ in Justin, TX, or to Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation ( https://tpwd.texas.gov/business/donations/ ).

Ed's children would like to thank the staff at Mayberry Gardens Assisted Living Center (House 3) in Denton, TX, for taking such good care of him.
