Obituary

E.D. "Tooter" Calvert, 81, of Denton, died Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at Senior Care Health and Rehabilitation Center in Denton.

Mr. Calvert was born on November 13, 1937 in Denton County, TX to Ernest Dewey Calvert, Sr. and Willie Beatrice (McDaniel) Calvert. He was married to Dorothy Mae Miller on August 11, 1962 in Ardmore, OK. He graduated from Denton High School and was a member of Gateway United Baptist Church. Tooter owned and operated Calvert Paving for over 60 years and was active in it until his latest illness. He had a great passion for raising and racing horses. But his greatest passion was for his grandchildren, great and great great grandchildren.

Tooter is survived by his granddaughters, Crystal Calvert of Denton, step grandchildren Tonya Riney Schwolert of Colorado, Melody Riney Jones of Sanger, Jacqulyn Calvert Riney of Denton, Brock McDaniel, niece Connie Cardwell, nephew Tommy Dale Calvert, Jeff Cardwell great nephew who was his right hand in the paving business. Great grandchildren include Sarah Schwolert-Sifrit, Seth Schwolert, Katie Davis, Samuel and Elijah Watson, Nicholas Scott, Billy Jack and Maxwell Hyman, great great grandchildren Lily, Everleigh, Jack and Sawyer.  He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy and son, Michael John Calvert.

Pawpaw (aka Pawpaw Tootie) both loved and was loved well by his grandchildren/step-grandchildren. His positive impact on their lives growing up cannot be overstated.  He was a steady presence and a "fun" Pawpaw.  From cool four-wheelers and mopeds, Christmas Eve shopping trips, and New Mexico horse racing experiences to financial support for mission trips and first cars, Pawpaw found great joy in being part of the ever-growing lives of the immediate and extended family around him.  A man of few words, he always had a ready smile and conversation flowed easily when he engaged youngsters. He was always "young at heart."  While often stubborn and predictably self-directed, "I love you" were words his grandchildren heard often.  Pawpaw's kind, generous spirit towards countless others will forever be remembered.  His example influences even today.

The family wishes to thank Senior Care and Mercy Hospice for their superior care of their loved one.
