Dorthy(Dot)Schertz of Robstown, Texas passed away on August 29, 2009, in Denton, Texas with her family by her side. Dot was born in Denton on September 10, 1944, to Ernest E. Trietsch and Ruby Amyx Trietsch.Dot grew up on a farm north of Denton, representing a long heritage of family involvement in agriculture. She graduated from Denton High School in 1963 and from North Texas State University in 1967 with a Bachelors Degree in Home Economics. She married Sam Schertz on June 17, 1967. Dot began her professional career with the Agriculture Extension Service in New Bern, North Carolina, while Sam was stationed there serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. After Sam completed his service, they returned to Texas where Dot continued to work with the Extension Service in College Station. She remained active as a 4-H parent, leader, and volunteer throughout her life. Sam and Dot settled in South Texas to raise two sons, Matt and Jeff. Dot established her own successful interior design business. She later expanded her design talents and care for people to include real estate and new home construction and sales. Dot was known and loved for her larger than life personality. She had an amazing spirit and her love for life, family, and friends was bigger than Texas. More than a wonderful wife and mom, her husband and sons knew her as their best friend. Survivors include her husband Sam of Robstown, Texas, and two sons Matt Schertz of Washington, DC, and Jeff Schertz of Sanger, Texas; her sister Ernestine " Ernie " Edmundson and husband Clint of Rockport, Texas; and her brother Lewis Trietsch and wife Karla of Sanger. A memorial service will be observed at 11:00 am Friday, September 4, 2009, at the Blue Mound United Methodist Church in Denton. Visitation will be from 7 pm to 8 pm Thursday, September 3, 2009, at Mulkey-Mason Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home.
